The Introduction
The British Empire at the peak of its power ruled over the large territories and at that time it was living 450 million of population. The population when need to get important jobs and settle their lives they were to speak English. That's why most of the colonized countries to renowned English as their official language even after their independence. This also made the English language to be known as 'language of the elite' in those colonies.
What Happened after British went~
Till 1950s either the most of the colonies gain independence or had started a vast movement to get the independence. On taking the example of India we an know why English became so popular across the world. The leaders like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar objected on the making of Hindi and Hindustani languages as the official languages as the Hindi and Hindustani are not as much as connected to the southern people as the northern ones. This makes the the members of the constituent assembly to choose the English language as the official language as it is equally distant from all the communities of India. He also gave example that Brahmins will have more advantage if Hindi related to Sanskrit would made the national language and if Hindustani was made the official language then the Maulvi's would have greater advantage. Apart from Bhimrao Ambedkar many southern leaders were also concerned about it because they believe that Hindi is a north Indian language and if it became the national language the southern India will feel underrepresented. Seeing this two languages were chosen as the national language : Hindi and English. And the constituent assembly also said that till 1965 English would be removed by the nation as it is the language of the colonizers who had ruled over us. It was not done so because of the resistant by the southern leaders even after the movements like ' Angrezee Hatao '.
