The Indian independence took place in 1947 where the leaders of both the
countries agreed it. However, Gandhi Ji truly objected it. He said that the
partition would be done when people will cross hi dead body.
Before knowing full detail about the partition let us know some facts that are
very great to know:-
- Pakistan objected that Taj Mahal should
be relocated to Pakistan because it was built by a muslim ruler Shah
Jahan in the memory of his wife.
- Till 1948 Pakistan used Indian
currency by just stamping their symbol.
- Indian Viceroy had
12 cars. 6 of gold and 6 of silver. Both nations
quarreled upon each other for the ownership of gold cars but the dispute
solved when Mountbatten did a toss and winner was India. It
is also said that the coin had two similar sides which was ensured
by Mountbatten to make India win.
- It is often said that to ensure
that Mountbatten arrive at the independence ceremony of
both the countries their partition took place on the different dates.
- Mahatma Gandhi didn't participated in any of the
ceremony of the Independence because he he was busy controlling riots
between Hindu and Muslim at Bengal while staying in Culcutta (present day Kolkata).
- It is said that 20 lakh peoples
lost their lives in the partition riots.also more than 1 crore people
were badly affected by this.
- Some historians like Michael Edward clearly stated
that Mountbatten failed to understand and take
responsibility of the conditions of Indian society.
Now that we got to know that India had gain the independence with
some dark reality for the people of the country at that time had to face.
Few months before the Independence Mahatma Gandhi had
met Mountbatten several times in order to avoid the Partition
but as of course he rejected.
Many peoples think that Jinnah had led to the partition
of India but it was wrong because the seeds of partition was
placed in the late 1800s when Sir Syed Ahmad Khan said
that Hindu-Muslim unity is impossible and they can't even live
together in one nation. He proposed in his works that the Muslim community
is in a great danger. On the other hand Hindu extremist
peoples like Raja Shiva Prasad said that Hindus despite
being a majority are in a great danger because Muslim's population
is increasing deliberately.
At the early time Jinnah with other congress leaders was
against the formation of Muslim League because he thought it
would the nation in two religious groups. But overtime when Jinnah saw
that Congress was turning towards extremist Hindu policies
making him to join Muslim league.
The Muslim League was established by Aga Khan to support the voice raised
by Muslim society.
Overtime Muslim League succeeded in getting separate seats for themselves
which was the another biggest step towards the partition. Time passed and more
and more Muslim leaders joined the league.
On the other
side side of India other prominent Hindu figures formed unions like 'Akhil
Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha' by peoples like Madan Mohan Malviya.
This formation
of unions on the basis of caste led to the increase of chaos and situation more
worse than before.
People like
Savarkar and Rahmat Ali also contributed to their for the partitions.
But that's all
for this post.
We would talk
about this all later.
